Following this, typically a week later, we will present your potential new smile via a more detailed simulation of bespoke tooth movements and check you are happy with the outcome. We will decide together how you want your final teeth to look and we can make adjustments as desired, resulting in a preview of your new smile in the context of your whole face and lips.
Consent for treatment is carried out here.
Invisalign ® fitting
Your Invisalign ® braces will be manufactured and typically fitted within a few weeks.
At your fit appointment we will check the fit of your first aligners and show you how to insert, remove and clean them. We will give you your first few aligners.
Attachments will be placed on your teeth. These are tiny tooth coloured handles that give the aligners something to gently push on and provide extra grip. They’re very inconspicuous and are easily removed at the end of treatment.
Smoothing, also known as Interproximal reduction, is sometimes carried out between crowded teeth to ‘free the teeth’ to allow space for gentle alignment. Smoothing involves the removal of a minuscule amount of enamel from between the teeth. It’s quick, painless and won’t affect the health of your teeth.
Wear your Invisalign ® clear aligners
You’ll wear your Invisalign ® braces for a minimum of 20 hours a day. The aligners gently and continuously move your teeth. Each aligner is typically worn for one week and then changed to the next at home. You will generally visit us every 4-6 weeks to check your progress.
Smile with confidence
Once your teeth have moved to the final desired position, whitening and cleaning is carried out. Further finishing touches can be undertaken such as edge smoothing (contouring) and optional bonding. A scan is then used to fabricate your retainers. Retainers must be worn to keep your new smile in place.
Invisalign ® FAQ
-

The typical treatment time here at Sheffield Clear Braces is 3-9 months, depending on the starting position of your teeth.
Invisalign ® Go, the Invisalign ® system we favour for most patients, works by improving the position of the front 10 teeth of the upper and/or lower jaws. The position of these front teeth have the greatest impact when creating a healthy attractive smile. The system does not move the back molar teeth which are typically more difficult and time consuming to move. As a result, treatment duration tends to be shorter than traditional orthodontic treatment.
Sometimes treatment in more complex situations can take up to one year or more. We’ll provide a more precise estimate at your consultation.
Treatment progress is typically checked at the practice every 4-6 weeks.
-
The achieve the best results we recommend that you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. This means you should wear your aligners at all times unless you are eating, drinking, brushing or flossing.
